What Our Customers Say

Miroslaw Zawadka
We’ve been working with Rafal for the past two years, and I couldn’t be happier with his services. He’s incredibly reliable, always professional, and takes the time to explain things in detail. One of the best parts is that he speaks both Polish and English, which makes communication a breeze. Highly recommend him for anyone looking for an experienced and trustworthy accountant!

Damian Liszka
I have been using the Tax Accounting Group for over one year. I am very pleased with the professionalism of Rafal’s services. He is very knowledgeable and has a lot of passion for his work. As a small business owner I highly recommend the Tax Accounting Group to anyone who wants outstanding tax services.

Mike Daws
Raf has been taxing care of my company’s tax for the last few years. A big positive change from the previous two tax agencies I had tried. Raf takes a personal, hands-on attitude – I feel as though he treats my company accounting as though it were his own. Raf is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Camellia Nguyen
It was such a relief for me to let Raf do all of my tax return in the past few years. There is alot of thing I don’t know about doing a proper tax return. Since I used Raf’s service, I received a much bigger return that I had previously. One less thing to worry about every financial year: check!

Cuba Daniel
I’ve been through several different accountants in the past and no other accountant put so much time and effort into understanding my family businesses including our complex family business structure than Tax Accounting Group and Raf in particular. My family had overdue returns, my businesses had messy accounts (despite paying bookkeppers) and I always felt like I was overpaying my taxes. Raf and his team not only brought all my accounts up to date and prepared all my outstanding business returns but Raf also made sure I understood what he was doing. He even found some errors in my already lodged tax returns and amended them saving me a couple of thousands! Raf is very responsive and would always promptly answer every question I had. He knows his stuff and is very easy to talk to. Thank you for your hard work!

Adrian Taylor
I have used Raf for my personal tax returns over the past couple of years. He is extremely helpful and knowledgeable regarding the process and made suggestions on things we could claim for that my wife and I never even considered previously. I have typically taken a DIY stance when it came to tax returns prior to going through Tax Accounting Group; though this often meant i only got to claim back a couple of hundred dollars in previous years. This time i got a $3000 refund and last year $2500. So for the price I paid for engaging Raf to do my last couple of tax returns, it was worth it many times over. Definitely recommend others to use them and in doing so support this local small business.
International Taxation Services in Sydney
International tax can be stressful when one part of your life is in Australia, and another is elsewhere.
You may be earning income overseas while living in Australia. You may be leaving Australia, returning after years abroad or trying to work out whether you are still an Australian tax resident. You may have foreign property, an overseas pension, offshore investments, international business income or payments moving between related entities in different countries.
I’m Rafal Slowinski, Director of Tax Accounting Group Pty Ltd. I help individuals, investors and business owners in Sydney understand what Australia needs to know about their overseas income, assets and business activity.
You do not need to know the residency tests, treaty rules or reporting requirements before you contact me. Tell me where the income, assets, work or business activity sits, and I will help you work out what needs to be reviewed.

Cross-Border Tax Needs A Clearer Conversation

Known for his proactive approach, he specialises in identifying hidden efficiencies, safeguarding wealth and helping businesses solve their most critical financial and regulatory challenges.
With international tax, that means I do not start with assumptions.
I look at where you live, where your family and assets are based, where the income is earned, whether foreign tax has already been paid, whether a double tax agreement may matter and how the position should be reported in Australia.
The goal is to turn a scattered international tax situation into something clear enough to act on.

Foreign Income Is Not Always Handled The Way People Expect
A common problem with foreign income is that people assume it has already been addressed elsewhere.
You may have paid tax overseas and think that ends the matter. You may believe a foreign bank account does not need attention because it is small. You may think overseas rental income, dividends, wages, contractor payments or pensions are outside the Australian return because the money never came here.
Those assumptions can create problems.
Australian tax can still apply depending on your residency position, the income type, the country involved, the tax already paid and the way the income is documented. If a double tax agreement applies, it may change how the income is treated, but it does not remove the need to check the position properly.
I help you sort the facts before the return is lodged or before the ATO asks the question first.

International Tax Consultant in Sydney
If you are looking for an international tax consultant in Sydney, you probably need more than a standard tax return approach.
I can help with foreign income reporting, overseas rental properties, foreign pensions, overseas investments, tax residency questions, expatriate tax matters, returning-to-Australia tax issues, offshore assets and cross-border business activity.
For business clients, I can also review international transactions, overseas expansion, foreign entities, related-party payments, withholding tax questions, transfer pricing concerns and the Australian tax impact of trading across borders.
My role is to explain what Australia may tax, what needs to be disclosed, what records are required and where the risk may sit.

Residency Usually Comes First
Before we can deal properly with foreign income, we often need to look at tax residency.
That does not always match your passport, visa status, or where you feel “based.” It can depend on your living arrangements, family location, work pattern, property, financial ties, intention, time spent in Australia and the country you are connected to overseas.
If you are leaving Australia, returning to Australia or moving between countries, I can help review the facts that affect your Australian tax position.
Once residency is clearer, the rest of the advice becomes more useful. We can then look at what income Australia may expect you to declare, what foreign tax has already been paid and whether treaty rules or foreign income tax offsets may need to be considered.

Offshore Assets And International Business Need Proper Records
Overseas assets and international business activities can become difficult to manage when records are incomplete.
A foreign property may have rental income, expenses, exchange-rate issues, and a future capital gains tax question. An offshore bank account may have interest income. A foreign company or related-party arrangement may raise reporting, transfer pricing or withholding tax issues. A business selling across borders may also need to consider GST treatment, contracts and how income is brought back into Australia.
I help you identify what exists, what records are missing and what needs to be reported.
If the structure is more complex, I can also help you understand which issues need tax advice, accounting cleanup or coordination with another adviser overseas.

If The Issue Has Already Been Missed
Many people only realise there may be an international tax issue after the income has already been earned, an asset has already been sold, or a return has already been lodged.
If that has happened, I can still help.
I can review what was reported, what may have been missed, what documents are available and whether an amendment or correction should be considered. If the ATO has contacted you about foreign income, offshore assets or tax residency, I can help you understand what they are asking and what needs to happen next.
The earlier we look at it, the more options we usually have. But even if the issue is already there, guessing is not the answer.

Frequently Asked Questions
